Years ago, I saw some fabulous sheep benches and footstools in Architectural Digest — they were so clever and unique. The sheep added a whimsical aesthetic to the room while also being functional sculptures. The article credited Francois Xavier Lalanne as the original designer.
At the Spring 2015 Highpoint North Carolina International Furniture Show I met a manufacturer from Argentina with the sheep footstools/bench seats that you see in the photo. They are handmade using a maple frame with authentic shearling bodies and leather ears. I had to buy some for the shop — they are works of art!
When I returned home, I showed my unique find to a dear friend and client. She excitedly told me she too was a fan of the sheep. Carol told me about going to the Goring Hotel with her family in London, England. They have some of the original sheep placed throughout the hotel lobby, bar and even the guest rooms.
Last summer, a friend and I had to visit the famous Goring Hotel and its sheep. We ate lunch next to one — it was one of the highlights of our trip!
